Tar is a village in the central western part of Istria, above the confluence point of the Mirna river into the sea, 9 km north of Porec; elevation 109 m. It is located on a plateau below which the cove of Tarska Draga stretches. It was first mentioned in AD 983. Chief occupations are farming and livestock breeding. Tar is located on the regional road Novigrad – Porec- Trieste.
In the vicinity of Tar is the Lanterna peninsula, rich in Mediterranean vegetation, with a tourist village.
